Hangin' with the Girlfriend
1 miles of hiking • 0' elevation gain • 4 nights
My girlfriend and I just moved across the state from the Kenosha and Milwaukee area to Sparta, WI and needed a break from unpacking. We spent a few days canoeing and hiking around family property in the great north woods of Wisconsin. We also brought our hammocks and field tested some some ziplock bag cooking in my new DIY reflectix pouch. Weather was HOT and mesquites were ravenous! For most of Wisconsin south of highway 64, we have had 4-5 inches below average rainfall and in many areas lawns and farmers crops are completely shot. However, north of that highway the upper half of the state has ubove average rain for the year so the corn is tall and bugs are busy.

Pre-NCT Over Nighter
4 miles of hiking • 0' elevation gain • 1 night
Hanging out for a night at Snipens house after a 400 mile drive. Getting some shut eye from the hammock before starting the NCT section the next day. Weather was stormy and the whippoorwills noisy.

Hammock Camp Out
3 miles of hiking • 0' elevation gain • 3 nights
Just a good Ol' 4 day campout. Weather was fantastic at upper 30s at night to mid 60s by day. No blood sucking bugs of any kind and the fishing in Lake Rolling Stone was great. This was also the first official overnight hammock camping trip for my friend Jalon Hawk.

Sleeping in the Park

I spent the week sleeping in various parks around Milwaukee and Brown Deer in order to save on gas money. Instead of coming home from my ceramics studio at 6am I would just go set up the hammock in a park and sleep for several hours before going back to work.

January Gear Test
22 miles of hiking • 0' elevation gain • 7 nights
I spent a week in northern Wisconsin testing out the new DIY pulk and getting my hammock and gear ready for another winter camping season. All went well except for the 40 degree weather and lack of deep snow. I had to use spikes instead of snow stakes due to the lack of snow.
