Had to get out of town so did a one nighter with the dog to Wapiki lake. An easy drive from Hood River. Got to the trail head off 24 at about 9 and encountered a few groups of hikers headed out after doing the lakes loop. Beautiful weather, about ideal for hiking.
Still a few patches of snow hanging on in the shaded areas.
No bugs until I arrived at the lake. Moderate skitters, w/ a few biting flies were paying a visit. I love this lake w/ it's blue/green water color, fish, and rarely do I encounter more than 1 or 2 other campers. Had the peninsula site this trip which was stocked w/ saw-able size wood, always terrific when you arrive and find your house furnished. If I hadn't of had it w/ the skitters, I would have salvaged to replenish the supply a bit for the next guy before I left but Lexi and I were ready to head out...Would anyone miss mosquitoes if they were to suddenly disappear? Do you view them as part of the overall wilderness experience or just a pain in the ass? Great hike w/ or w/out the bugs.
