Granite Mountain

8 miles of hiking • 3750' elevation gain •

A bit of slushy snow at the top. No spikes needed, but trekking poles might help.

Palmer Mountain

7.5 miles of hiking • 4500' elevation gain •

The road was closed so we had to hike 1.5 miles to get to the base of the mountain. And then it was 4,440 feet of bushwhacking and scrambling till we reached the summit. Amazing views, but definitely never going to do this hike again. It's a complete thrasher.

Lake Isabel

8 miles of hiking • 2500' elevation gain •

We heard this is a best kept secret, mostly because of all the bushwhacking and wayfinding that needs to happen. But when we got up there, it seems like it's become a bit more popular. We downloaded a GPS track, and even with that, we had to do a bit of bushwhacking. But otherwise it was a lot of fun making the way up there! As a bonus, there is a kayak and a canoe you can use. Sadly, there was ZERO vis when we went, so it was like paddling in a cloud with black water below. Really spooky.

Ancient Lakes - Dusty Lake

8 miles of hiking • 1000' elevation gain • 1 night

Not wanting to spend the night in snow, we headed out to Ancient Lakes for the first time. The hike in is incedibily easy. We set up camp away from everyone else, made our way up the waterfall, and then continued to scramble up some of the steep mesa walls. Beautiful views looking back down. Just make sure you pack in your water. The lakes are full of chemicals from the irrigation in the surrounding farmland.

Loma del Pliegue Tumbado

13 miles of hiking • 3750' elevation gain •

Our final hike in El Chalten. This viewpoint was one of the best to be had. And we wished we had done this a bit earlier in the trip as our feet were rather murdered at this point. We even saw a Guanaco on our way up.

Chorrillo del Salto Waterfall - Mirador Fitz Roy Scramble

5 miles of hiking • 1500' elevation gain •

What started out as a simple hike to see a beautiful waterfall turned into a route finding scramble to get an amazing look at Monte Fitz Roy. Turns out, we scrambled up the backside and we were overlooking the Mirador for Fitz Roy. So we had an even better view than the people below us.

Mirador de los Condores

4 miles of hiking • 500' elevation gain •

With a little time to spare in the day, we decided to hike up to the Mirador de los Condores to get a better view of El Chalten. This is an easy hike and it's one that a lot of visitors do when they reach the ranger station at El Chalten.

Camp Agostini back to El Chalten

5 miles of hiking • 500' elevation gain •

Day five, time to pack out and head back to El Chalten. Of course the weather has kicked back up and we spend most of the time hiking in the wind and rain. Thankfully the sky clears by the time we get back to town so we can have a tasty beer in the sunshine.

Loma de las Pizarras

10 miles of hiking • 3750' elevation gain • 1 night

Day four, we decide to take a boot path up to Loma de las Pizarras and see what kind of trouble we could get into. We end up making the scramble, but only after much convincing due to the flaky razor thin rocks being a bit sketchy.

Mirador Maestri

6 miles of hiking • 1750' elevation gain • 1 night

Day three, we took this day to go view Mirador Maestri (Cerro Torre) and then some scrambling up the mountain side to see if we could get a better look. Did not happen. So we did some more hiking around the area before calling it a day and retired back at camp Agostini

Mason Lake Snowshoe

Access roads were all snowed in so we plowed straight up from the exit on I90. Lots of route finding. Here is the video from the trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIlUcWldf6A

Source Lake Snowshoe

Our first snowshoe of the season. Source lake was a bit too easy so we tried to go over the ridge and down to Snow Lake, but we had to turn around due to the conditions. Full video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EJ-72yXk8k
